Back when Gypsy Palace was a brick & mortar boutique on Seattle’s Eastlake Avenue, I had a friend bring me back some hand-beaded jewelry from Guatemala and I had it for sale in the shop. After gentrification swept through downtown Seattle and our building was torn down, I had leftover inventory to liquidate. This exquisite blue-themed charm necklace was created from one of those Guatemalan beaded pieces in 2007 or so, but I never got around to listing it. I recently found it while rummaging through the studio for anything I could list on Etsy to revive my shop, which has sat mostly dormant for several years due to other work occupying most of my time.
So the rebirth of Gypsy Palace begins with the resurrection of a nearly-20 year old bohemian bling statement necklace. It’s about 21” long, with two slots to choose from on the button closure. I wove strips of vintage sari silk in between the strands of seed beads and then added a variety of antique charms and beads, some of which are sterling silver with Lapis Lazuli. Finding this necklace reminded me how much I enjoy making charm necklaces and bracelets and that it’s a great style of jewelry for helping me de-stash my vast trove of trinkets. I wish for this curated assemblage of treasures to find a home with someone who loves the color blue and appreciates the rich history behind this one-of-a-kind piece.
